Passenger traffic in August at China's Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA) rose compared with July but was still significantly less than a year earlier.
BCIA, the world's second-busiest airport by passenger numbers up until this year's Covid-19 pandemic, handled 3.55mn passengers in August, more than double July's 1.769mn but still 60.6pc less than a year earlier. Of the total passengers, 3.54mn, or 99.7pc, were on domestic flights. The airport recorded 18.33mn passengers during January-August, 72.7pc less than the year-earlier period.
Aircraft movements at BCIA, which include both landings and take-offs, totalled 29,543 in August, 69.59pc higher than in July but still 42.8pc less than a year earlier. There were a total of 165,610 aircraft movements during January-August, 58.2pc less than the same period last year.
As of the end of August, China operated a total of more than 13,000 civil aviation flights daily, which was 90pc of pre-pandemic volumes, its civil aviation administration said last week.
BCIA handled 91,921t of cargo in August, 7.17pc higher than in July but 42.9pc less than a year earlier. Total cargo throughput during January-August was 749,110t, or about 41pc less than the year-earlier period.
Market participants estimate China's jet fuel exports in August to have remained low at 51,000-76,000 b/d, and forecast around 79,000-105,000 b/d for September, as refiners still keep jet fuel yields low because of the impact of Covid-19 on demand.
