China's Satellite Petrochemical discharged a first ethane cargo yesterday for the commissioning of its 1.25mn t/yr ethane cracker at Lianyungang in east China's Jiangsu province.
The large ethane carrier (LEC) Navigator Nova yesterday unloaded 21,500t of ethane at Satellite's Lianyungang 160,000m³ refrigerated storage. It loaded the ethane from Marcus Hook in US' Pennsylvania on 2 September, Vortexa data showed. Satellite is preparing for the commissioning of the ethane cracker in November.
Its six very large ethane carriers (VLECs) with capacity of 98,000m³ each are expected to start deliveries in November. Satellite announced in September that it finalised a deal to transfer the ownership of the six VLECs to Malaysian state-owned shipping group MISC, which will charter the vessels back to Zhejiang Satellite for 15 years starting in this year's final quarter.
Satellite has previously announced agreements with US-based Energy Transfer Partners for ethane supplies out of the US for the Lianyungang ethylene plant. Energy Transfer's joint venture with Satellite, the 180,000 b/d Orbit ethane export terminal at Nederland, Texas, was scheduled for completion in this year's final quarter.
