Saudi petrochemical producer Sabic has formed a partnership with Italy-based flexible packaging manufacturer Gualapack and UK baby food manufacturer Ella's Kitchen to create food caps made from recycled plastic waste.
The recycled content for the cap was created using certified circular polymers from Sabic's Trucircle circular plastics portfolio and comes from recycled plastics from post-consumer waste. Gualapack uses Sabic's recycled polymer resins to produce the cap, which will be used by Ella's Kitchen for its baby food pouches.
The new cap will be used in over 3.5mn pouches of Ella's Kitchen baby food products in the UK from January 2022. The use of the caps in Ella's Kitchen's products will aid its ambition of making all its packaging recyclable by 2024.
Sabic last year partnered with US technology firm Microsoft to create a computer mouse from recycled ocean plastic.
