India's state-controlled refiners have raised the listed prices for bulk and drummed bitumen in Mumbai from 16 February amid rising import prices.

Prices for bulk and drummed bitumen were increased by 4,740 rupees/t ($63/t) for the second half of February. Ex-Mumbai prices of bulk VG10 were at Rs48,580/t and Rs48,880/t for VG30 bulk, while prices of VG10 and VG30 pack were at Rs55,880/t and Rs56,680/t respectively.

Iranian bulk bitumen export prices rose to their highest in more than seven years last week, and are still holding firm this week. Bulk prices were assessed by Argus at $425/t fob Iran for the week ended 11 February — the highest since end-November 2014. Drum prices were assessed at $465-490/t fob Iran.

Domestic demand continues to be lacklustre because of non-seasonal weather and issues around the disbursement of project payment, but refiners are maintaining bitumen production at normal levels. Road paving activities and in turn demand is expected to pick up in end March to early April.

State-controlled refiners Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum operate 240,000 b/d and 190,000 b/d refineries in Mumbai respectively.
