A series of rare gasoline flows from the US to Australia have emerged and is expected to arrive around February-March, said market participants.
The STI Madison, Midnight Glory and Das could be bringing around 1.25mn bl of gasoline from the US to Australia, according to oil analytics company Vortexa. The STI Madison is expected to discharge around 800,000 bl of gasoline to Australia's Botany Bay in early February, while the Mideast Glory could discharge around 270,000 bl of gasoline to Kwinana city in mid-February, according to Vortexa data.
The STI Madison has declared Botany Bay as the discharge port via the vessel's automatic information system (AIS) and is expected to arrive on 3 February, while the Midnight Glory has also announced Kwinana as the discharge port and is expected to arrive on 10 February, according to ship tracker Fleetmon.
The flow is "not typical" and it was workable earlier in December 2023 when freight levels were not so high and US supplies were ample, said a Singapore-based gasoline trader. There were no gasoline import volumes from the US from July 2020 to November 2023, with most of Australia's imports coming from Singapore, according to Australian Petroleum Statistics data.
