US Steelmaker Nucor published its first weekly consumer spot prices for hot-rolled coil (HRC) today.

The company set the HRC base price at $830/short tonnes (st) for all producing mills excluding California Steel Industries (CSI), whose HRC is priced at $890/st.

Nucor listed lead times for these spot orders of 3-5 weeks.

The prices are based off quantitative and qualitative data, according to Nucor, and will be in effect until the next publication on Monday.

Nucor announced on 4 April that it would begin publishing consumer spot prices on 8 April to "reduce [customer] reliance on speculation and reduce risk." The steelmaker typically publishes, along with competitors such as Cleveland-Cliffs, price adjustments to HRC — the last of which was a $60/st increase to $900/st issued by Cliffs in late March.

Argus last assessed HRC ex-works Midwest at $840/st on 2 April, up $20/st from a week earlier.
