Metals recycler ABC Recycling has expanded its western Canadian footprint with the acquisition of Vancouver-based Pacific Metals Recycling's book of business.
The deal includes the company's book of business, roll-off and trailer accounts and some equipment and will help ABC grow its scrap metal volumes to its existing yards in the region, the company said Tuesday.
Financial terms of the transaction, which was finalized in early June, were not disclosed.
ABC told Argus that since the acquisition, all of the scrap metal from Pacific Recycling has been flowing into its existing Burnaby, Surrey and Abbotsford locations across British Columbia.
Pacific Metals told Argus on Tuesday that it also sold some of it recycling operations to Pacific Materials Destruction, a subsidiary of Urban Impact, but the company did not specify details.
The company's British Columbia property was not included in the sale and has been leased. Remaining equipment not included in the sales will be going to auction on 18 September with Tradewest Asset Solutions.
Pacific Metals recycles ferrous and nonferrous metals as well as cardboard and other miscellaneous items and has operated in the Vancouver area for more than 100-years.
The deal marks the third major acquisition by ABC over the last year and highlights the recycler's goal to continue growing its presence in the Pacific Northwest. In June, the company acquired Burlington, Washington-based Skagit River Steel and Recycling and in November 2023 it acquired Fraser Valley Metals in British Columbia.
The acquisitions followed the company's mutual decision to exit from its deep-sea lease with the Port of Bellingham in Washington and its subsequent withdrawal of a corresponding shredder project in the area.
