More Norwegian gas field works planned in June

Planned maintenance at the Ormen Lange, Oseberg and Gullfaks fields will weigh further on Norwegian gas production capacity this month, according to offshore system operator Gassco's updated schedule on Thursday afternoon.

Maintenance at the 18.6mn m³/d Ormen Lange field has been shortened by three days, but made heavier. The field's capacity will be cut by 9.6mn m³/d on 2-6 June and by 10.6mn m³/d on 7 June-4 July. Works were previously scheduled to cut Ormen Lange's capacity by 9.6mn m³/d on 3 June-6 July.

And maintenance at the 27mn m³/d Oseberg field has been moved forward, with additional works now scheduled.

Oseberg capacity will be cut by 5mn m³ on the 9 June gas day and by 11.7mn m³ on the 10 June gas day. No capacity will be available on 11-15 June. The work was previously scheduled for 14-18 June.

Further works limiting Oseberg output by 11mn m³/d are then scheduled for 16-22 June, leaving 14mn m³/d of listed capacity available for that period.

In addition, new planned works will limit output from the 18.3mn m³/d Gullfaks field. Unavailability is set at 5.1mn m³ on 10 June.

Norway's offshore maintenance schedule is entering another heavy phase. Total unavailability across Norwegian production assets will range from a low of 33.7mn m³ on 6 June to a high of 67.2mn m³ on 15 June. Overall processing capacity unavailability will hold in a daily range of 43mn-62.6mn m³ on 6-16 June, and will be lighter over the remainder of the month at a minimum of 14.8mn m³/d.

The start of maintenance at the Kollsnes processing plant and the Troll and Njord fields led to a drop in production on Thursday. Flows through Gassco infrastructure to the UK were nominated at 39.5mn m³ for Thursday as of late afternoon, down from 50.5mn m³ on Wednesday. And flows to continental Europe were nominated to fall to 222.9mn m³ from 248.6mn m³.

UK receipts of Norwegian gas have been muted in recent weeks. Low UK demand has pushed NBP prompt prices below most northwest European markets, incentivising shippers to reduce supply to the UK. The UK received around 15pc of Norwegian output — excluding fields only able to deliver gas to the UK — on 1-5 June, in line with from May. This was well below a 28pc share in the first quarter.
