Nigeria's Trans-Niger oil pipeline under maintenance

Scheduled maintenance has begun on Nigeria's 180,000 b/d Trans-Niger Pipeline (TNP) — the only operational pipeline route to the Bonny export terminal — the operator told Argus.

"TNP is expected to return online within 10 days," spokesperson Michael Adande said. The planned turnaround includes statutory, integrity and growth-related work, he added.

Renaissance Africa did not say when the maintenance began or whether it has affected exports of Bonny Light crude.

The Bonny Light export programme for this month included three cargoes scheduled to load in the first 10 days of September.

Renaissance Africa — a consortium of mainly Nigerian independents — took over operatorship of TNP and the Bonny export terminal from Shell in March.

In May, a pipeline rupture disrupted crude flows into TNP, although the main line remained operational. The incident occurred on 7 May on a feeder line. It followed a fire on TNP in March, which halted flows and prompted President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Rivers state.

Planned maintenance has also begun at Nigeria's Soku and Gbaran oil and gas plants, Adande said. The Soku plant is in Rivers state, while Gbaran is located in the coastal Bayelsa state. Timelines for the work will vary depending on the scope at each site, Adande said.
