Australian meat processing company Craig Mostyn Group has opened a poultry line at its Talloman facility in Perth, Western Australia (WA).
Craig Mostyn's poultry line will process an additional 50,000 t/yr of chicken by-products into stock feed, aqua feed, pet food and feedstock for biofuels, the firm said on 5 September. The A$20mn ($13mn) rendering upgrade is part of the company's A$100mn pledge to invest across its processing sites.
The additional poultry line will recycle waste poultry products, including blood, offal and feathers, from abattoirs, boning rooms, butchers and supermarkets around WA that would otherwise be sent to landfill. Talloman is the only poultry renderer in WA, chief executive Wayne Crofts said.
WA agriculture minister Jackie Jarvis attended the launch of the facility on 4 September. Jarvis has previously supported the development of a low-carbon fuels industry in the state, but a mandate to incentivise biofuel production is not yet in place.
