S Korea's SK Enmove expands lubricant business to India

South Korean producer SK Enmove has formed a joint venture with Anand Group subsidiary Gabriel India to expand into India with a focus on EV-specific premium lubricant products, the firm said on 16 October.

The new joint venture, SK Enmove Gabriel India, will be owned 51pc by SK Enmove and 49pc by Gabriel India. SK Enmove will introduce engine oils, gear oils, industrial lubricants and EV-specific lubricants to India from December.

Gabriel India provides high-precision ride control products and solutions. Anand Group has a wide distribution network in India and established relationships with leading automotive manufacturers.

The firm expects India's automotive industry to grow by more than 4pc/yr on average over the next five years.

India is the most populous country in the world with over 1.4bn people. India's automobile industry produced 5.1mn passenger vehicles, 24mn two-wheelers, and over 1mn commercial vehicles in the last April 2024-March 2025 fiscal year, data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) show.

Indian consumption of lubricants and greases rose by 13pc on year to 4.6mn t in the last fiscal year, data from the oil ministry show.
