Brazil's Mato Grosso soy harvest ahead on year

The harvesting pace of the 2025-26 soybean crop in Brazil's central-western Mato Grosso state is ahead of activities in the same period in 2025 for the previous cycle.

Harvesting activities advanced by 11.1 percentage points to almost 25pc of the total sowed area in the week ended 30 January, according to regional agricultural institute Imea.

The pace is 12.8 percentage points ahead of the 12.2pc progress a year earlier for the 2024-25 season and also ahead of the 12.6pc five-year average for the period.

Corn

The 2025-26 winter corn planting pace is also ahead of 2025 but below the five-year average for the period, Imea said.

Work advanced by 7.8 percentage points to 15.6pc of total expected area in the week ended 30 January.

That is ahead of the nearly 6.3pc sowed for the 2024-25 a year ago but below the 20.3pc five-year average.

Cotton

Mato Grosso's 2025-26 cotton planting is also moving fast and ahead of the prior year's pace, reaching nearly 67.8pc as of 30 January, up by almost 20 percentage points on the week.

The 2024-25 crop was 53.5pc sowed at this time a year ago, while the five-year average for the period is 59.5pc.
