US LNG producer Cheniere received federal approval to begin introducing feedgas to another train at its 11.45mn t/yr stage 3 expansion at Corpus Christi LNG in Texas.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) authorized Cheniere to flow gas to the warm end of train 5 on 9 February, indicating the train's initial production could begin this month. Trains 3 and 4 began producing LNG about two and three weeks, respectively, after receiving approval to introduce feedgas to the warm end.
The company will need authorization to flow gas to the cold end as well. It has not yet asked FERC for such permission.
The stage 3 expansion is part of the 28.9mn t/yr Corpus Christi terminal, adding seven mid-scale trains to the existing three large-scale trains. Cheniere last year began construction on mid-scale trains 8-9, which along with debottlenecking activities will add 5mn t/yr of capacity.
Cheniere filed with FERC for another expansion last week. The project would add 24mn t/yr of capacity, two 220,000m³ storage tanks and a third marine berth.
