State-owned QatarEnergy has issued a force majeure to buyers that have had their LNG deliveries disrupted by a production halt at the firm's 77mn t/yr Ras Laffan export terminal, and a pause in vessel transit through the strait of Hormuz.

Some long-term contract buyers that are due to receive their next cargoes in the coming months are yet to receive force majeure notices.

QatarEnergy took Ras Laffan LNG off line on 2 March after a drone attack at the wider Ras Laffan industrial complex, according to Qatar's defence ministry.

At least two buyers of cargoes that have recently loaded at Ras Laffan LNG but are yet to sail through the strait of Hormuz have received force majeure notices from QatarEnergy, Argus understands. One of these buyers is India's state-owned Petronet LNG, which has a long-term contract for 7.5mn t/yr of offtake from Ras Laffan. The 138,000m³ Disha LNG carrier, which is linked to the contract, loaded at Ras Laffan LNG on 1 March but is still waiting near the terminal.

A buyer that does not have a cargo scheduled from Ras Laffan LNG for at least another month has not yet received a force majeure notice from QatarEnergy. The firm has issued notices to some buyers with cargoes that have not yet been waylaid but could be disrupted, but these are not official force majeure notices.
