Gerdau, Steel Dynamics and Nucor increased US merchant bar quality (MBQ) steel list prices for some products, effective 26 March.

The three mills raised MBQ prices for select angles, channels and flats by $40-60/short ton (st), with increases varying widely by product. Higher prices mostly applied to larger-sized products, while many smaller MBQ grades remained unchanged.

Seasonal growth in construction activity, strong demand for data center and infrastructure projects, and lower imports have supported domestic long products prices.

Mills lifted prices for angles of both equal and unequal length above 4in by $40-60/st. Increases did not apply to MBQ angle 2x2x0.25in and MBQ angle 3x3x0.25in, with list prices holding at $1,156/st and $1,165/st ex-works, respectively.

Channel price increases varied by size, with lengths under 4in largely unchanged, 4-5in up by $40/st and 6in and higher up by $60/st. List prices for MBQ Channel 8inx11.5 were unchanged at $1,210/st ex-works.

Flats price increases also varied by size and width, with medium and larger products up by $40-60/st. List prices for MBQ flat 4x0.5in were unchanged at $1,160/st ex-works.

Mills last raised MBQ prices in mid-January following higher raw material costs.

Argus assesses MBQ grades monthly on the last working day of the month.
