Feedgas to Mexico's 3.25mn t/yr (450mn ft³/d) Energia Costa Azul (ECA) LNG export terminal stepped higher last week as operator Sempra ramps up the facility's commissioning process.

The terminal received an average of 127mn ft³/d over 25-31 May, climbing as high as 143mn ft³/d three times in that span, most recently on 31 May, pipeline data show. That is up from an average 95mn ft³/d the previous week. Sempra has not yet announced if ECA has begun producing LNG, but the firm plans to begin commercial operations this summer.

ECA's long-term offtake customers are TotalEnergies and Mitsui, which hold 1.7mn t/yr and 800,000 t/yr, respectively. A subsidiary of Sempra holds 230,000 t/yr of offtake.

ECA, located on Mexico's Pacific coast in Baja California's Ensenada, began receiving feedgas on 20 April. The project will re-export US natural gas, sourced mostly from the Permian basin of west Texas and New Mexico, putting it under the purview of the US Department of Energy (DOE). The DOE in March extended ECA's deadline to begin exports to 21 September.
