More Asian diesel heads to Chile

More Asian diesel is heading to Chile and helping offset a closed arbitrage to Europe, a traditional outlet for Asian cargoes.

The tanker March Vanessa is due to load 298,000 bl, of what traders deem to be diesel, from South Korea on 28 May at a lump sum freight of $1.5mn.

The vessel joins other tankers moving diesel via the same route. The Jose Progress was booked to ship an identical volume of diesel to Chile from Chile in mid-April with freight costs at $1.45mn. Chile has been taking spot volumes from Asia to cover refining shortages following damage to its refineries after a massive earthquake in late February

While spot demand from Chile is helping to counter a closed diesel arbitrage to Europe, the Asian jet fuel market has been dampened by ample supplies and a lack of arbitrage opportunities to the US west coast.

The Freight Venture was failed to load 551,000 bl, of what is thought to be jet fuel to Hawaii, loading from Singapore on 27 May at a lump sum freight of $1.2mn.
