Production remained reduced at Israel’s Gadiv Petrochemicals Industries following a fire at its Haifa site early this month.

The fire broke out at one of the xylene furnaces on 7 March. It was immediately extinguished without causing any injury to staff or harm to the environment.

“We are back in production. It is not 100pc yet but we are gradually moving there,” said a spokesman at Oil Refineries Ltd. (Bazan), which owns Gadiv.

Force majeure was not declared at the site, which produces aromatics and solvents, including benzene, toluene, paraxylene, mixed xylenes and orthoxylene.

The fire was triggered by a puncture in a xylene tube in the combustion section of the furnace.

Haifa, located in northern Israel along the eastern Mediterranean, also hosts Bazan’s 180,000 b/d refinery, which was not affected by the incident.
