American Midstream to buy DCP gathering assets

American Midstream Partners will buy oil and natural gas gathering and processing assets from DCP Midstream for $115mn, expanding its presence on the Gulf coast and in the US Gulf of Mexico.

Those assets include the 300mn cf/d (8mn m³/d) Mobile Bay gas processing plant in Alabama and the 270-mile (435km) Dauphin Island natural gas gathering and transmission system, which has a capacity of about 1 Bcf/d and delivers gas to the Mobile Bay plant. That plant is operating at 70pc of capacity, but American Midstream said it expects customers on the Dauphin system to increase processed volumes there by 70mn cf/d by the end of 2015.

In addition, American Midstream is acquiring DCP's 67pc stake in the 160,000 b/d Main Pass Oil Gathering System that collects offshore output from producers in the US Gulf of Mexico.

The deal, which is expected to close in August, will allow American Midstream to compete more effectively for new production in the eastern region of the US Gulf, the infrastructure-focused partnership said.

The DCP assets will complement American Midstream's High Point system, which includes 700 miles of gas and liquids pipelines that serve southeast Louisiana and Gulf of Mexico producers.

American Midstream's High Point system takes gas to the Enterprise Products Partners 1.1 Bcf/d Toca gas processing plant, where it can be delivered into the Southern Natural Gas pipeline, a key conduit for gas supplies into the southeastern US.
