Natpet offers PP fiber to Turkey

Private-sector Saudi Arabian producer Natpet is starting to offer polypropylene (PP) fiber to Turkey.

Demand for PP fiber in Turkey is significantly firmer than other PP grades because of its use in face masks and hygienic products amid the coronavirus outbreak. China last month ordered 200mn masks from Turkey, boosting demand for non-woven PP fiber.

PP fiber prices in Turkey now command a $100/t premium over raffia. Premiums typically are around $30-50/t. Argus on 27 February assessed Turkish prices for PP fiber at $1,070-1,090/t, while raffia prices were at $970-990/t.

The offers to Turkey come as the Yanbu-based Napet boosts supplies at its 400,000 t/yr PP plant. It restarted last month after more than a year off line following an explosion in October 2018.

Natpet produces PP raffia, random and fiber using LyondellBasell's Spheripol technology. The company's PP plant is fed by a 420,000 t/yr propane dehydrogenation unit.
