Japanese LPG importer Eneos Globe is still unsure when it can resume operations at its Nanao terminal in Ishikawa prefecture after an earthquake on 1 January.

Eneos Globe has halted inland and coastal shipping of all products including propane, butane and autogas from the terminal since 1 January when the 7.6 magnitude earthquake hit Ishikawa prefecture in the Hokuriku region.

The company is using its LPG terminal in Niigata prefecture, fellow importer Gyxis' Yokkaichi terminal in Mie prefecture and refiner Idemitsu's plant in Aichi prefecture to cover the losses from the Nanao terminal, which has storage capacity of 30,300t of propane and 15,200t of butane, according to the Japan LPG Association.

Japanese LPG demand is sufficiently covered by private-sector supplies and there are no plans to release national stocks, said the ministry of economy, trade and industry (Meti). The Nanao national stockpile base in Ishikawa prefecture has storage capacity of 150,000t propane and 100,000t butane. The supply disruptions were because of earthquake-related landslides blocking traffic, it added.
