Brazilian oil and natural gas producer Origem Energia will supply gas to Brazilian steelmaker CSN as it expands its participation in the wholesale gas market.

Origem will supply gas produced at its blocks in Alagoas state, which will be possible because of the new gas pipeline tie-in in Rio de Janeiro state that connects Transportadora Associada de Gas (TAG) and Nova Transportadora do Sudeste's (NTS) grids.

The gas will be used at CSN's steel mill in Volta Redonda city, in Rio de Janeiro state.

Origem also reached a new supply agreement with Espirito Santo state distributor ES Gas. But it did not disclose the terms of either contract.

The company made its debut on the wholesale gas market last year, when it signed a supply agreement with mining giant Vale to supply its Tubarao pellet complex in Espirito Santo.

It also renewed its supply agreement with Alagoas' distributor Algas for up to 400,000 m³/d in 2025 and 120,000 m³/ d in 2026-28, it said.

Origem also began operating the Maceio fuel terminal in Alagoas on 17 February. With control of the terminal, which also has storage crude and liquid fuel storage capacity, the firm will be able to sell and ship the crude it produces at its fields in Alagoas, it said in a securities filing.

The firm's fields in its Alagoas cluster are connected to the terminal by pipeline. The terminal also distributes ethanol, biodiesel, marine diesel and gasoline by truck, Origem said.

Origem has 14 oil and gas concessions across Brazil's northeast as well as 18 exploratory blocks in the Sergipe-Alagoas and Tucano Sul basins.
