Tenaris buys Penn. shredder from SA Recycling

US steelmaker Tenaris has purchased SA Recycling's shredder and processing yard in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.

The 39-acre site sits adjacent to Tenaris's electric arc furnace steelmaking facility in Koppel, Pennsylvania.

SA Recycling took control of the Beaver Falls yard in 2021 when it acquired PSC Metals from Icahn Enterprises.

Tenaris said the acquisition gives it greater control over its scrap supply stream, allowing it to integrate steel production with scrap processing to streamline production.

Steelmakers have increasingly sought to take ownership of shredders and recycling facilities over the past decade since mill-owned shredders have different cost and pricing structures than privately-owned operations as they can absorb higher feedstock costs.

SA Recycling will continue operating the yard until early 2026, after which Tenaris subsidiary Steel Recycling Services will take over operations.

SA Recycling — a 50:50 joint venture between Sims and Adams Steel — did not respond to request for comment by publication time. The company operates more than 140 metal recycling facilities across the US.
