India’s IPL gets offers over 2.7mn t in DAP/TSP tender

India's IPL has received offers for DAP totalling 2.325mn t and for TSP totalling 410,000t in its tender which closed today, and had sought 1.2mn t of DAP and 400,000t of TSP.

The lowest prices are as follows:

TSP at $770/t cfr west coast

Eighteen traders and producers offered in the tender.

DAP offers for delivery to India's east coast total 965,000t, while DAP offers for delivery to the west coast total 1.36mn t.

IPL received offers for 150,000t of TSP for delivery to India's east coast and 260,000t of TSP to the west coast.

Spain's Fertiberia to supply PepsiCo low-CO2 fertilizer

London, 7 May (Argus) — Spanish fertilizer producer Fertiberia will progressively supply global food and beverage manufacturer PepsiCo with up to 150,000 t/yr of low-carbon nitrate fertilizers by 2030, under a new long-term supply agreement. Fertiberia will supply its renewable ammonia-based fertilizers, known under its Impact Zero brand, to global food and beverage manufacturer PepsiCo over an unspecified time frame. Farmers supplying PepsiCo will then use the fertilizers across approximately 400,000 acres (162,000 hectares) of farmland. Fertiberia has produced 20,000 t/yr of renewable ammonia at its Puertollano plant since 2022. The site has a 20MW electrolyser fed by an integrated 100MW solar photovoltaic plant. Fertiberia also produces 180,000 t/yr of natural-gas based ammonia at Puertollano, and previously indicated plans to add a further 50-180MW of electrolyser capacity — although it is yet to do so. The firm has also announced tentative plans for four further renewable ammonia projects in Spain, all of which have yet to reach final investment decisions. Fertiberia produces around 155,000 t/yr nitric acid at Puertollano. Combined with its ammonia feedstock, this can produce around 280,000 t/yr of ammonium nitrate and calcium ammonium nitrate fertilizers. Fertiberia's Impact Zero range utilises slow-release formulas and biological inhibitors to further enhance agronomic efficiency, reducing the overall greenhouse gas emissions of the finished product by 63pc. The supply agreement with PepsiCo builds on a successful trial in Spain and Portugal, where carbon emissions were cut by up to 20pc across corn farming and up to 15pc across potato farming, Fertiberia and PepsiCo said, without providing a benchmark emission level. The programme will now expand to France, Romania, Serbia, Greece and Turkey, for key crops including potatoes, corn, sunflower, sugar beet and rapeseed. The agreement will bring PepsiCo's share of low-carbon fertilizers used in its European operations up to 50pc by 2030, the company said. PepsiCo also has deals with Norwegian fertilizer company Yara in Europe , US nitrogen producer CF in the US and, most recently, agriculture technology company TalusAg across multiple regions . Similar initiatives have been undertaken by other global food and beverage manufacturers, which have a higher willingness to pay for the use of emissions-reducing fertilizer products in their supply chains than the farmers that are directly applying the product. Beijing, 7 May (Argus) — Indian fertilizer importer IPL has issued a tender on 6 May seeking 521,000t of ammonia for delivery to the east and west coasts on behalf of six Indian companies. IPL is seeking 151,000t of ammonia for the west coast and 370,000t for the east coast, on behalf of Indian Farmer Fertiliser Cooperative (Iffco), Paradeep Phosphates Limited (PPL), Coromandel International Limited (CIL), Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (GSFC), Indorama India, and The Fertilizers and Chemicals Travancore Limited (FACT). Total deliveries to the west coast are estimated at around 58,000t in June, 43,000t in July and 50,000t in August, while volumes to the east coast are targeted at 110,000t, 130,000t and 130,000t, respectively, over the same months. The tender has requested for offers submitted on a cfr or cif basis to the specified ports by 18 May, with validity required until 25 May. This tender reflects the consortium strategy adopted by India's major fertilizer producers to secure fertilizer raw materials, in view of ongoing efforts to manage domestic supply and cost pressures. Sulphur shipment crosses the strait of Hormuz

London, 6 May (Argus) — The Richsing Lotus, which is carrying sulphur , is the latest vessel to cross the strait of Hormuz. The vessel loaded on 27 March at UAE's Ruwais port and has been waiting for safe passage through the Iranian and US blockades of the strait. AIS tracking from Kpler shows the vessel navigating the strait of Hormuz on 1-6 May, and then appearing today just outside the US blockade line. The ship is understood to be moving around 50,000t of granular sulphur to Morocco's Jorf Lasfar under usual quarterly contracts, having been delayed by the effective closure of the strait. Several other sulphur shipments are waiting in the Mideast Gulf to exit, with estimates putting the quantity at close to 1mn t of sulphur loaded and ready to sail, with the expectation that around 60-70pc of this quantity is tied into contracts, with the balance likely to become available on the spot market when the strait is safe to navigate. PepsiCo inks new certificate-backed ammonia supply deal

London, 6 May (Argus) — Global food and beverage manufacturer PepsiCo will collaborate with firms TalusAg and S3 markets to develop a low-carbon ammonia certification system which could help to decarbonise the wider fertilizer and agriculture supply chain. The collaboration also includes a supply agreement between PepsiCo and TalusAg for 30,000t low-carbon ammonia with an option to increase volumes to a total of 71,000t over an unspecified time frame, the firms said. Agricultural technology firm TalusAg has developed a small modular ammonia system which uses renewable power to produce ammonia at or near the point of use. The firm has a 1,000 t/yr renewable ammonia pilot project in Boone, Iowa already in operation. The firm has a second project planned in Eagle Grove, Iowa, which will produce around 7,000 t/yr. Both sites are strategically located within the US' Corn Belt and will supply local farmers for direct ammonia application. TalusAg is also working with Australian developer Minbos on a renewable ammonia project in Angola. TalusAg plans to generate environmental attribute certificates (EACs) from its Boone project via S3 markets. S3 markets is an EAC provider for low-carbon commodities operating with verified blockchain technology. Together with PepsiCo, the firms hope to develop a tradeable market for EACs of low-carbon ammonia with a book-and-claim chain of custody model, similar to the way in which renewable electricity certificates operate and can be traded. A book-and-claim certification system for ammonia would allow end users of agricultural products like PepsiCo to address the emissions in their supply chains through the purchase of EACs for low-carbon fertilizers, thereby supporting production costs but without forcing farmers to pay a premium they cannot afford. The initial agreement will cover PepsiCo's European, sub-Saharan Africa, Asia-Pacific and global teams, the firm said. PepsiCo also signed an agreement last month with US fertilizer producer CF industries for the supply of low-carbon urea ammonium nitrate fertilizer (UAN). Similar initiatives are already underway to develop EACs for ammonia, reflecting the industry's growing need to find a way to bypass farmers' inability to pay increased costs for low-carbon fertilizers. These initiatives include the Low Carbon Fertilizer Alliance , of which ammonia producer CF is a founding member, and the Ammonia Energy Association's pilot book-and-claim certification system which launched last year. Kuwait's KPC raises May sulphur price by $195/t

London, 5 May (Argus) — Kuwait's state-owned sulphur producer KPC has set its May Kuwait Sulphur Price (KSP) at $765/t fob Kuwait, up by $195/t from the April KSP of $570/t fob. This is the highest level the KSP has reached in this round of steady price rises starting in July 2025 and since its launch in July 2019. The May KSP implies a delivered price to China of $881-887/t cfr at current freight rates, which were assessed on 30 April at $116-119/t to south China and at $120-122/t to Chinese river ports for a 30,000-35,000t shipment.
