Gulf Keystone shuts in Iraq's Shaikan oil field

Iraq-focused independent oil producer Gulf Keystone has temporarily shut in production at its Shaikan oil field in the Kurdistan region of Iraq as a safety precaution "due to the developing regional security environment".

The firm said today that the field had been producing 45,000 b/d of oil, and added that its assets have not been impacted.

Gulf Keystone only restarted production and export operations from Shaikan — one of the Kurdistan region's largest oil fields — on 24 June. The field had been shut as a precaution after the outbreak of the US-Iran war on 28 February, as Iran's retaliatory attacks on energy infrastructure, ports and shipping heightened security risks across the Mideast Gulf. Attacks have again increased in the region, with Kuwait and Bahrain reporting strikes on their oil and power infrastructure over the past two days.
