The start of full commercial operations for German utility RWE's new 777MW Eemshaven A coal-fired unit in the Netherlands has been delayed by nearly one month to 31 January 2015.

The unit was previously due to come fully on line on 1 January, but the utility will use the extra time to conduct further boiler optimisations and the contractual trial run for the steam turbine.

Eemshaven A is one of four new higher-efficiency coal-fired units that were originally expected to come on line in the Netherlands this year or earlier, only to suffer delays. Unit B at RWE's Eemshaven plant, also 777MW, is expected to be commissioned on 6 May next year, while Eon's 1070MW Maasvlakte 3 unit is currently scheduled to come on line at the end of January. French GDF Suez's 724MW Rotterdam 1 coal-fired unit is still undergoing its test phase, after missing a number of deadlines for commissioning. GDF Suez has not disclosed an updated start-up date.
