The African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP) is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to driving agricultural productivity across Africa through market-driven business solutions in fertilizer and agribusiness.

Established as a strategic partnership initiative by leading African development institutions — including the African Development Bank (AfDB), African Union/NEPAD, Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), COMESA Alliance for Commodity Trade in Eastern and Southern Africa (ACTESA), and the Agricultural Marketing Trust of Kenya (AGMARK) — AFAP serves as a trusted catalyst for sustainable agricultural transformation on the continent.
AFAP delivers innovative advisory and implementation services to both the public and private sectors, helping design and execute projects and policies that strengthen fertilizer and agribusiness markets. By combining technical expertise with entrepreneurial innovation, AFAP builds competitive, inclusive value chains that enhance smallholder productivity and profitability.
Through its Agribusiness Partnership Contract (APC) mechanism, AFAP provides access to trade finance for fixed assets and inventory, while linking hub agro-dealers and smallholder farmers to global fertilizer and food companies, balanced crop nutrition products, technology providers, financiers, and equipment suppliers. In doing so, AFAP creates lasting partnerships that expand market access, improve input distribution, and unlock Africa’s vast agricultural potential.
To ensure its work remains responsive and relevant, AFAP has adopted a decentralized operational model, with three regional hubs in Southern Africa, East Africa, and West Africa. This structure brings decision-making closer to its country offices and partners, enabling quicker action and stronger alignment with local realities. Currently, AFAP operates in Mozambique, Malawi, South Africa, Zambia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ghana, and Nigeria, with plans to expand into additional markets.
