South African energy firm Sasol is likely to start up its 420,000 t/y low density polyethylene (LDPE) unit at its flagship Lake Charles, Louisiana, petrochemical plant before the end of 2019.
The start-up of the LDPE unit was delayed earlier this year because of technical issues.
Its 470,000 t/y linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) unit at the same site is running smoothly after starting up in February.
Sasol also currently operates a 1.5mn t/yr ethane cracker at Lake Charles.
On 16 October, Sasol said an independent review into possible "control weaknesses" for the Lake Charles project had been completed.
Sasol raised the cost estimate for the Lake Charles project by $1bn to $12.6-$12.9bn in May.
The company also said that it would release its 2019 financial results and other related year-end publications on 28 October.
