Norway strike action threatens Troll crude supplies

Around 20pc of benchmark Troll crude supplies could be cut in the coming days, with strikes at three of the six Norwegian fields that feed into the stream.

Workers went on strike yesterday, following a breakdown in pay negotiations last week.

The Troll stream is supplied by the Fram, Troll, Byrding, Kvitebjorn, Gjoa, and Vega fields. The combined output from these averaged around 144,000 b/d in July, according to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD).

The strike action only affects Norwgian state-controlled Equinor's Kvitebjorn field, the Gjoa field that is operated by the UK's Neptune Energy, and its satellite Vega, which is operated by Germany's Wintershall Dea. Combined liquids production from these three averaged around 29,000 b/d in July, NPD data show. Neptune said that only gas production has so far been affected at Gjoa.

Strikes are also underway at Johan Sverdrup, Gudrun and Gina Krog. Production at the Johan Sverdrup, Norway's largest field, is unaffected.

It is rare for strikes to take place over pay in Norway, although they are often threatened.
