Argus will today assess two new DAP prices for product in Egypt and Romania.

The new DAP fob Egypt and DAP bagged fca Romania prices will be assessed weekly for these two increasingly important phosphates markets.

DAP fob Egypt

The price will largely be defined by product sold from supplier El Nasr Chemicals (NCIC), which is usually marketed by trading firms. NCIC brought a larger DAP plant at its Ain Sokhna facility on stream in August 2019 with an annual capacity of around 400,000 t/yr.

The DAP has been sold to a wide variety of destination markets, depending on seasonality. The first sale of Sokhna DAP into India earlier this year highlighted the importance of Egyptian DAP in the region. Sales to Europe and the US have also taken place.

DAP bagged fca Romania

Romania is an increasingly important DAP importer in the Black Sea region, receiving around 250,000-350,000 t/yr of DAP for direct application or NPK blending.

The main destination for these imports is the port of Constantza. This assessment will cover DAP offered on a bagged basis, with duty paid, at a defined location in Romania from distributors, typically a seller's warehouse or terminal.

Morocco is the largest source of imported product, but DAP from Russia, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Jordan, Tunisia and Turkey has also featured. Major players have stepped up their presence in the market, with major global trading firms bolstering their distribution systems in the country.

Morocco's OCP announced in January its decision to launch a fertilizer logistical joint venture, Seefco, in equal partnership with the UAE's Al Dahra, highlighting the increasing importance suppliers are placing on Romania.
