Austria-based petrochemicals producer Borealis has signed an agreement to offtake the entire annual bio-based renewable feedstock production of Belgium-based chemical recycler Renasci.
The offtake agreement came into effect in May and covers a projected production of 20,000 t/yr at Renasci's chemical recycling plant at Oostende, Belgium. Borealis will process the bio-feedstock supplied by Renasci at its Porvoo cracker in Finland, to produce its circular polymers range that it markets at Borcycle C.
Chemical recycling and interest for circular polymers have seen increased traction this year, both from producers and downstream buyers and converters.
In April, US-based packaging company Berry Global Group signed an agreement to offtake Borealis' first circular polypropylene produced using exclusively chemically-recycled resins. This week, Finnish refiner Neste entered into a long-term agreement to supply 100pc bio-based renewable feedstock for processing into polymers at global petrochemical firm LyondellBassell's cracker and polyolefin plant in Wesseling, Germany.
