Australia continues to export no propane in May

  • : LPG
  • 21/07/02

There were no Australian propane shipments in May for the second straight month, which is the first time in the past 10 years. This dragged total LPG volumes to a two-year low with butane exports at their second-lowest monthly level so far this year.

Prior to April there have only been two months since November 2010, May 2019 and November 2018, that there have been no propane exports. The only month over the same period that there were no butane exports was in May 2019. Argus started collating LPG trade data supplied from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) in November 2010.

Butane shipments were at their second-lowest monthly level this year after February's 49,300t. There were no details on export destinations for the butane shipments.

The average export price for combined shipments was $502.93/t in May, up from 481/t in April and well above the May 2020 average of $286.81/t. The May average export price was based on a US-Australian dollar exchange rate of $0.7759.
