South Korean petrochemical producer YNCC reduced operating rates at its Yeosu-based No.2 naphtha-fed cracker yesterday because of technical issues.

The cracker has a nameplate capacity of 880,000 t/yr of ethylene and 440,000 t/yr of propylene and is running at 60-70pc. The reduced operations are expected to last for 5-6 days, according to a source close to the company. Downstream units associated with the cracker are running as normal.

YNCC conducted a debottlenecking exercise at the No.2 cracker in late 2020 to increase its ethylene and propylene capacities by 300,000 t/yr and 140,000 t/yr respectively.

The producer operates two more crackers in Yeosu — its No.1 cracker with 860,000 t/yr of ethylene and 450,000 t/yr of propylene capacity and its No.3 cracker with 470,000 t/yr of ethylene and 240,000 t/yr of propylene capacity. Both crackers are running at full rates.
