Indonesia extends export ban on CPO products

Indonesia is banning the export of crude palm oil (CPO) and its derivates from 28 April until the domestic price of bulk cooking oil reaches 14,000 rupiah/litre ($1/l).

The export ban applies to CPO, palm oil mill effluent (POME), bleached or deodorised (RBD) palm olein, refined palm olein (RPO) and used cooking oil products.

The policy extends Indonesia's export ban announced on Tuesday targeting only refined, bleached or deodorised palm olein. But this policy was "deemed not to be effective enough", co-ordinating minister of economic affairs Airlangga Hartarto said today.

"The temporary export ban on cooking oil is a strong commitment by the government to prioritise the domestic community," Hartarto said.

Uncertainty around which products would fall under the export ban created volatility in European markets this week.
