The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has certified Houston-based flexibles recycler Circulus to produce post-consumer recycled low density polyethylene (LDPE) at its Ardmore, Oklahoma, facility.

Circulus received approval to produce rLDPE at its facility in Riverbank, California in December 2022. Only six companies produce FDA-approved rLDPE, including Circulus, Mexico-based Integradora DRG, and Germany-based Papier-Mettler KG.

The approval is "an important milestone for Circulus as it will strengthen our ability to produce resins for a wide variety of consumer-facing products and packaging," chief executive Mike Dulin said.

Dulin added that the certification will help Circulus meet "strong demand" for flexibles it is seeing in the sustainable packaging industry.

Circulus's Riverbank facility produces rLDPE that is approved for usage in food contact applications with raw vegetables, fruit and egg shells.
