UK-based recycler Mura Technology will build a 50,000 t/yr plastic recycling facility in Singapore, according to a statement issued on 28 August.

The facility will be located on Jurong Island within the Singapore Essential Chemicals Complex (SECC), on a site secured from Singapore petrochemical producer PCS. Timelines for the construction and start-up were not disclosed. Mura has also set up a new Singapore office to support the project and its regional growth strategy.

The plant will utilise Mura's Hydro-PRT technology to convert plastic waste into circular hydrocarbon products that can be used to create virgin-quality recycled plastic materials.

The project marks Mura's latest expansion in Asia. This follows partnerships with Mitsubishi Chemical in Japan and LG Chem in South Korea, which combined with Mura's UK facility in Wilton, are expected to deliver up to 60,000 t/yr of liquid circular hydrocarbons by the end of 2025.

Singapore's Zero Waste Masterplan, launched in 2019, targets a 70pc national recycling rate and seeks to significantly reduce plastic waste. Mura's Singapore facility aims to process over 60,000 t/yr of plastic waste annually, and has the scope to be expanded to 100,000 t/yr.
