Ukraine's wheat exports rose slightly in the week to 29 September, while shipments of barley dropped sharply, according to data from the country's economy ministry.

Ukraine exported 407,000t of wheat in the week to 29 September, up from 391,000t a week earlier. Year-to-date wheat exports for the 2025-26 season (July-June) reached 4.43mn t, below 5.59mn t at the same point last year.

In contrast, Ukraine's barley exports dropped to just 8,000t from 98,000t the previous week. Barley exports since the beginning of the season in July have reached just under 800,000t, well below the 1.25mn t shipped over the same period last year.

Corn exports amounted to 14,000t, up from nothing the previous week, according to the economy ministry data. Cumulative corn exports for the current 2024-25 marketing year (October-September) stood at 20.21mn t, the lowest since 2017-18.

Ukraine's corn exports are likely to lag 2024-25 at the start of the incoming 2025-26 season in October because of a delayed harvest. Ukrainian farmers had threshed only 964,200t of corn from 195,900 hectares by 25 September. This is well below last year's 4.7mn t threshed from 920,700ha by 26 September 2024. The current area represents only 5pc of the ministry's overall projected harvested area of 4.2mn ha.
