Brazil’s Parana finishes 2025-26 summer corn planting

The 2025-26 first corn crop is fully sowed in the southern Parana state, ahead of the year-earlier pace.

Work advanced by 1 percentage point to 100pc of the expected area in the weekend ended 10 November, according to department of rural economics Deral. The 2024-25 crop was 98pc sowed at this time last year.

Summer corn conditions remained stable compared with a week prior. Areas rated in good and medium conditions account for 94pc and 6pc of the total planted, respectively.

But Parana was hit by heavy storms during 8-9 November, with the damage yet to be accounted for.

Soybean

Planting for the 2025-26 soybean crop advanced to 86pc from 79pc between 3-10 November, a 6-point delay from a year earlier.

Crop conditions continued to deteriorate for the fourth week in a row. Areas in good quality fell to 91pc from 93pc, while those in medium and bad conditions rose by 1 percentage point each to 7pc and 2pc, respectively, of the total sowed so far.

Farmers reported several areas will need replanting after recent storms, which resulted in soil erosion. This will elevate production cost, and many producers are already evaluating if the resowing process will be viable thanks to ideal planting window for winter corn. The grain planting succeeds soybean harvesting in a great portion of the state.

Wheat

Parana's 2025 wheat crop was 92pc harvested as of 10 November, up by 4 percentage points from a week earlier, Deral said.

The wheat harvest lags the 98pc that was harvested a year prior.

Conditions have declined since the previous week. Areas rated in good condition fell to 81pc from 83pc of the total still in fields, while those in medium condition rose by 2 percentage points to 19pc.
