ExxonMobil Chemical restarted a unit at its 1.8bn lbs/yr (816,000 t/yr) ethylene plant in Beaumont, Texas, this week, the company confirmed today.

A power outage 10 November caused a shutdown of process compressors on an ethylene unit at the facility, causing the plant to flare a mixture of olefins, aromatics, and NGLs, according to a filing with state environmental regulators.

The outage, coupled with a subsequent issue at Shell's cracker in Norco, Louisiana, caused spot ethylene prices at Mont Belvieu to climb from 51.75¢/lb 10 November to as high as 56.25¢/lb on 14 November. Early today, ethylene for November delivery traded at 56¢/lb.
