Total's 174,000 b/d Port Arthur, Texas refinery reported the shutdown of Unit 700 due to a cooling water leak late yesterday, according to a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
"Preparations are underway to install a temporary patch until this equipment can be repaired," the report stated. The event resulted in emissions of hydrogen sulfide and unspecified compounds.
The refinery's reformer and TDP units can produce up to 289,000 t/yr of benzene.
