Chevron Phillips Chemical will build a polyethylene pilot plant at its research and technology facility in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to conduct polyethylene research including new catalyst and polymer development as well as polymer performance enhancements, the company said today.
Construction on the site is set to begin in 2015, with completion set for 2017. The plant will incorporate Chevron Phillips' proprietary MarTECH loop slurry process for polyethylene production as well as its advanced dual loop technology, which enables production of bimodal polyethylene resins for advanced applications.
The proposed plant is the latest in a series of infrastructure projects announced by the company, including two 500,000 t/yr polyethylene plants at its site in Old Ocean, Texas, and its 1.5mn t/yr ethylene cracker at its Cedar Bayou facility in Baytown, Texas. Both projects broke ground earlier this year and are slated for completion in 2017.
