Braskem America's Oyster Creek polypropylene facility near Freeport, Texas today reported it would experience 10-22 days of emissions following an downstream problem at Dow, according to a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

Braskem's polypropylene unit sends unreacted propylene to Dow's light hydrocarbon unit No. 8. Dow's unit is shutting to repair an exchanger leak, resulting in emissions from Braskem.

This maintenance was initially planned for October, but was pushed back to December to minimize emissions, according to the report. All emissions Braskem cannot recover will be sent to LHC8. Braskem will also work with Dow to receive a higher grade of propylene feed to reduce the amount of unreacted propylene routed to the flare, according to the filing.

Dow separately reported the failed restart of a propylene refining column within the hydrocarbon unit No. 8 in Freeport today.
