Updates with information on production impact and previous shutdown

Shell has declared force majeure on natural gas deliveries to Nigeria's 22mn t/yr Bonny Island LNG production plant through the Eastern Gas Gathering System (EGGS-1) right-of-way pipeline.

The firm declared force majeure on 8 August and is supplying gas through other lines, it said. There has been no adverse effect on LNG output or loadings so far, Bonny Island's operator, consortium Nigeria LNG (NLNG), said.

EGGS-1 carries the bulk of the Shell's supplies to the facility. The declaration of force majeure followed a leak on the line. The major and NLNG are investigating the incident and will carry out repairs.

Shell last shut the pipeline because of leak in May 2013, which disrupted around 1.5bn ft³/d (15.5bn m³/yr) of supply. The company provides just under 59pc of Bonny Island's feedgas through its SPD joint venture. Other suppliers include Total and Italy's Eni.

The complex took 83.6bn ft³ (2.4bn m³) in June. Receipts averaged 86.5bn ft³/month last quarter, up from 75.5bn ft³/month in January-March.
