Production restarted this week at Turkish-owned Tosyali steel plant in Algeria, following industrial action by workers.
Tosyali halted operations at its steel plant last week for at least four days, after negotiations between the parties failed. Production has resumed this week, a source close to the matter said.
Workers at Tosyali's mill first walked out last month, demanding improved working conditions and higher pay. The parties reached an agreement and operations resumed.
But workers went on strike again "a few days later" following the company's decision to dismiss some workers.
The second round of the strike resulted in the closure of the factory for at least four days last week.
There are around 3,700 workers at Tosyali's Algeria plant.
Tosyali has 3mn t/yr of rebar and 600,000 t/yr of wire rod production capacity in Algeria and produced around 1.5mn t of long products last year.
The company brought on line a 4mn t/yr iron ore pellet plant and 2.5mn t/yr DRI plant in Algeria at the end of last year.
The steelmaker exported Algeria's first rebar at the beginning of this year, marking a key step in the country's shift from net steel importer to exporter.
Algeria has witnessed large-scale anti-government protests since February, which resulted in the resignation of the president, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, last month, who had been in power for 20 years.
