Innogy sells most Czech gas storage capacity at auction

Germany's Innogy sold almost all of the spread-indexed gas storage capacity it offered at two auctions today.

The firm sold all 1TWh of space offered for the three storage years starting from 1 April 2020. The capacity is bundled with a maximum injection rate of 12 GWh/d and a maximum withdrawal rate of 15 GWh/d.

The storage price of the capacity is based on a formula incorporating a static summer-winter spread of €2/MWh and the summer-winter spread at the German NCG hub on given days within a published range in the respective storage year, as well as a premium that was the subject of the auction. The days will be chosen at Innogy's discretion and be based on Argus prices.

The capacity sold at the starting price without the premium.

This results in a final price that is a weighted average between the amount of capacity based on the static spread and the amount based on the Argus NCG summer-winter spreads for the respective storage year.

Innogy also sold 400GWh of 500GWh of space for April 2020-March 2021 offered at a separate auction today. The space was bundled with a maximum injection capacity of 5 GWh/d and a maximum withdrawal capacity of 6.6 GWh/d.

The price of capacity is based on the NCG summer 2020-winter 2020-21 spread on a specified weekday — to be nominated by the bidder — for each week from 1 August to 29 November this year, plus a fixed premium that was the subject of the auction. The capacity sold at the starting price for the fixed premium of 4 koruna/MWh (€0.16/MWh).
