Baotou Steel starts trading on Baotou RE Exchange

China's major light rare earths producer Northern Rare Earth's wholly-owned subsidiary Baotou Steel Rare Earth International Trade has started trading its rare earth products on the Baotou Rare Earth Products Exchange, the country's first national trading platform of its kind.

Baotou Steel on 30 August listed its cerium oxide and cerium carbonates on the exchange. It will decide later whether to trade other rare earth products on the platform.

Its listed prices on the exchange today are 10,400 yuan/t ($1,455/t) for 99.95pc cerium carbonate, or Yn46,823/t for 45pc cerium carbonate, and Yn12,400/t for 99.95pc cerium oxide.

Argus assessed spot prices for 99.5-99.9pc cerium oxide flat today at Yn11,900-12,400/t, while the range for 45pc cerium carbonate was unchanged at Yn4,600-5,100/t.

The Baotou Rare Earth Products Exchange was established in May 2011. It is jointly owned by 14 major Chinese rare earths suppliers, including Northern Rare Earth, Chinalco, China Minmetals, Xiamen Tungsten, Gansu Rare Earth and Sichuan Jiangxi Copper Rare Earth.
