Automotive production curtailments widened today as a key crossing on the US-Canadian border remained blockaded by protesting Canadian truckers.

Travel across the Ambassador bridge that connects Detroit to Windsor, Ontario, is still suspended as truckers and supporters protested Canada's Covid-19 restrictions for a fifth day.

Honda had to cut production on one line during the day shift at its Alliston, Ontario, sedan and midsize SUV plant today. The company's US plants are running a full shift today. A parts shortage at General Motors' (GM) CAMI small SUV plant forced it to cancel its morning shift.

Toyota's Canadian plants remained down, and its Kentucky plant only ran one shift today. The company is also seeing impacts at its Alabama engine plant and engine and transmission plant in West Virginia.

Ford has taken down its Ohio medium and heavy truck plant because of blockade-related parts shortages and is running at reduced production rates at its Ontario-based SUV plant in Oakville and engine plant in Windsor.

Stellantis is making production adjustments related to parts shortages from the blockade.

The two week-long protest by cross-border truckers began 28 January in Ottawa before spreading to US-Canada border crossings in Windsor, Ontario, and Coutts, Alberta.
