Columbus, Ohio-based steel processor Worthington Industries has adopted Argus ferrous scrap price assessments in an industrial supply contract with a Midwest consumer.

The company trialed selling its ferrous scrap based on an Argus #1 busheling assessment with the consumer from December 2022 through February 2023. Following the trial period both parties agreed to keep Argus as its index price for basis of settlement, according to a source familiar with the matter.

"Argus price history has shown to be consistent with the market and its platform is user friendly with timely reporting on industry events," said Charles Masini, Worthington's manager of scrap operations and secondary sales.

Worthington Industries is a large generator of industrial scrap through its 13 different steel processing facilities and other manufacturing sites throughout North America.

It shipped 4.2mn short tons of steel during its 2022 fiscal year, according to its annual report.

The move follows the adoption of Argus ferrous scrap prices in industrial contracts by others outside of the automotive industry.

Zekelman Industries, the largest independent steel pipe and tube manufacturer in North America, has been using Argus scrap prices in two of its industrial agreements for over a year in a basket with another published index.

Zekelman is comprised of multiple subsidiaries with over 17 manufacturing locations across North America.
