ArcelorMittal has increased its hot rolled coil (HRC) base price at its AM/NS Calvert flat steel rerolling mill in Alabama to $950/short ton.

The company said it was increasing prices by $50/st and its tandem steel product pricing minimum was now $1,150/st.

The mill, a 50:50 joint venture between Mittal and Japanese steelmaker Nippon Steel, has a rerolling capacity of 5.84mn short ton/yr.

It is in the middle of a 1.65mn st/yr EAF installation to supply it with internally sourced slabs.

The move comes after electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaker Nucor announced this morning it would increase its flat steel prices by $50/st and bring its HRC minimum price up to $900/st. Integrated steelmaker US Steel raised its flat steel prices by $50/st on 14 June.

EAF competitor Steel Dynamics (SDI) said in an earnings guidance today it expects the destocking trend of recent months to ease and for higher steel prices to find support.

The Argus US HRC Midwest ex-works assessment has dropped by 27pc since its April peak to $880/st on 13 June.
