The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has found no significant environmental impacts from a proposed Tennessee Gas Pipeline (TGP) project that would bring natural gas to a Tennessee power plant.

FERC staff issued its findings on TGP's Cumberland Project in a final environmental impact statement (EIS) last month. FERC will consider the EIS when deciding whether to approve the project.

TGP's Cumberland Project includes construction of 32 miles (51 km)of pipeline and various facilities in the Tennessee counties of Dickson, Houston, and Stewart, providing 327mn cf/d (7mn m³/d) of new firm transportation services. It also includes a pressure regulation station, Cumberland meter station, launcher and receiver, and mainline valves. The pipeline would stretch through Zone 2 of the company's system.

The Cumberland project would provide natural gas to the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to support its planned replacement of a coal-fired power plant with a natural gas-fired combined-cycle plant.

TGP expects construction of the Cumberland pipeline to begin in August 2024 with an anticipated in-service date of September 2025.

TGP's natural gas system includes 11,800 miles of pipeline and has a total capacity of 12.2 Bcf/d.
